Objectives in art

In year 7:                                                                                                               

Students are introduced to a range of new techniques, materials, artists and themes.These experiences set the foundation for developing as an effective artist and creative thinker. Each theme is designed to develop a balance of practical skills, knowledge and understanding.

In year 8:

Modules have been designed to extend the creativity, learning, knowledge and skills introduced in the previous year’s course. Students will be encouraged to work independently, to experiment with techniques and to evaluate the progression of their ideas.

In year 9:

In preparation for the thematic approach to work in Y10, students are given a project brief and are encouraged to select and develop individual ideas. Students use diverse sources and are introduced to different ways of creating work that is inspired by a theme or an individual artist. Art appreciation is also a main focus in Y9.  Students are asked to analyse and evaluate examples of modern and contemporary art practice, developing further their knowledge of art terms and the confidence to express personal thoughts and opinions.

Illustrator, Art Teacher, Architect, Fashion Designer, Story board artist, Interior Designer, Street Artist, Courtroom Artist, Jeweller, Fine Artist, Animator, Printmaker, Art Therapist, Gallery Curator, Art director, Graphic Designer, Make-up Artist…to name a few!!

Students at Ibstock have also taken part in the Ashby Arts festival, a fantastic opportunity to showcase artwork within the local community alongside other local artists. Each year, the festival provides the school with a chosen theme. The past 2 years has been “Life in the National Forest” and “A Right Royal Celebration”

Ibstock’s artwork from the festival has been fortunate enough to appear in the Ashby Life magazine!

GCSE Art

Students study OCR’s Fine Art Course at GCSE level. There are two components to the course, the portfolio which is completed throughout Year 10 and the Externally Set Task completed in Year 11.

Content overview

Component 01: Portfolio

Students produce a portfolio of practical work showing their personal response to a set starting point, brief, scenario or stimulus. The portfolio may be presented in appropriate formats for the specification title they are following and chosen area of study, including sketchbooks, digital presentations, mounted sheets, maquettes, prototypes, animated work, scale models or illustrated written work.

The portfolio must provide evidence that the student has met all four assessment objectives.

Component 02: Externally set task

Students respond to one of five themes, each with a range of written and visual starting points and stimuli. Students research, plan and develop ideas for their response to the option they have chosen, which they must then realise within the ten-hour supervised time period.
