Dear Year 8 and Year 9 Parents and Carers,

We hope this message finds you well and that your child has settled into the academic year with confidence and enthusiasm.

In the past, Key Stage 3 students have received reports at the end of the year and at one other assessment point. However, this year we have adapted our reporting cycle, so that parents and carers benefit from more information at a time when it can make a difference: during the academic year.

You will have three opportunities to gain insight into how your child is learning: an Autumn term ATL report, a full report in the Spring term and a Parent Progress Evening.

Your child’s Attitude to Learning report is now available to view on the Arbor App under the Report Cards section. This report includes an Attitude to Learning grade for each subject, awarded by your child’s teachers. Mrs Langston, Science teacher, is currently absent due to illness, so your child will have no attitude to learning for the time being.

Attitude to learning and attendance play a vital role in your child’s academic success. A positive attitude to learning—characterised by curiosity, resilience, and active participation—helps students make the most of every lesson. Likewise, regular attendance ensures that your child benefits from the full curriculum and maintains continuity in their learning. Together, these factors are key drivers of progress and achievement.

We use five categories to describe Attitude to Learning, based on our Standard Learner Expectations, which outline the behaviours and habits we expect from all students to support their progress. Some students may exceed these expectations and be recognised as Independent or Leading learners. These grades are designed to give you a clear indication of how your child is engaging with their learning in lessons – please see the grid below for more information.

We encourage you to discuss these grades with your child and reflect on their learning habits and progress so far. The next report will be shared in the Spring term, continuing our commitment to keeping you informed and involved in your child’s education.

Thank you for your continued support.
