Science
At Ibstock School, we aim to provide a high-quality science education which:
- develops a sense of excitement, curiosity and respect for living organisms and the physical world
- enables students to build a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and phenomena through a broad and balanced 5-year curriculum which covers the three key disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics and is underpinned by scientific enquiry
- gives students the skills to understand the world around them, both now and in the future
- allows all students, regardless of their starting points, to make good progress and be successful
Our five-year curriculum is designed around the ‘big ideas’ in science:
- organisms, genes, interdependence (biology)
- matter, chemical reactions, Earth (chemistry)
- forces, energy and waves (physics)
Key Stage Three Science
Students will follow the KS3 Science curriculum until January of Year 9, during which time they will study the following topics:

Key Stage 4 Science
Students will begin to study GCSE topics in the spring term of Year 9, during which time students will complete the first modules of the AQA Combined Science Qualification. Suitable candidates will be able to opt to follow the Triple Science Qualification from the start of Year 10.
