Dear Parents/Carers of Year 10 students
A few weeks ago, we shared your child’s Attitude to Learning grades. We are now pleased to provide their target grades for your information. A full progress report will be sent home next half term.
Target grades
Your child has a target grade for each subject which has been generated using Fischer Family Trust 20 estimates (based on the performance of students with similar academic backgrounds in schools in the top 20% nationally) and teachers’ assessment of their work in Year 10 so far. Target grades provide an indication of what students might aim for, but they are not a ceiling – students could exceed their target if they work hard. We will continue to review target grades as we progress through KS4. Please talk to your child about their target grades and how they will work towards them.
A reminder of the grading structures at KS4
Previously, A*-U was used to grade students at GCSE, however the 9-1 system was introduced from 2017. The table below illustrates how the current system maps against the old A*-U approach.

If your child is taking a BTEC or CNAT qualification, the grades range between L2D* – L1P. The chart below provides information on the grades that can be awarded and how they relate to GCSE equivalents.
Attendance and attitude to learning
Attending school and all lessons consistently is vital, especially at Key Stage 4, so that content and skills are not missed. The report provides your child’s percentage attendance.
When in lessons, students’ attitude to learning is key for making good progress. In order to learn as much as possible, they must focus, work hard and respond to feedback. The descriptors for attitude to learning can be found at the end of this letter. This report contains a reminder of the ATL grades provided before half term; they have not been updated.
Should you have any questions regarding your child’s Target Grade report, please contact their CREW Leader or their subject teacher in the first instance.
Kind regards,
Sarah Nelson
Assistant Headteacher (Student Progress)
