Dear Families and Carers of Year 10 Students,

We hope your child is enjoying the start of their Key Stage 4 journey and embracing the challenges and opportunities that come with GCSE study. This is a crucial phase in their education, and we are pleased to see many students already demonstrating a positive attitude to learning and a strong commitment to their subjects.

Your child’s Settling In Report is now available to view on the Arbor App under Report Cards. For each subject, your child has been awarded an Attitude to Learning grade by their teacher, which reflects how they are engaging with lessons and meeting expectations. We know that attitude to learning is not only the key to academic progress but also plays a vital role in developing essential skills for future employability—such as resilience, independence, and collaboration.

Our Standard Learner Expectations outline the behaviours and habits we expect from all students to support progress, which include regular completion of independent learning (homework). Some students may exceed these expectations and be recognised as Independent or Leading learners. The criteria for the five categories of Attitude to Learning are included below to support conversations with your child.

Teachers are currently reviewing students’ KS4 targets, which will be shared with you in early November. These targets are designed to be aspirational yet achievable, and will help guide students through their GCSE journey.

We would also like to highlight the importance of attendance in supporting academic success. There is a strong correlation between high attendance and strong GCSE outcomes. Every lesson counts and consistent attendance helps students build the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to succeed.

A full progress report will be available to parents and carers in January. If you have any queries regarding your child’s report, please contact their CREW leader.

Best wishes.
